China Tries to Thwart News Reports From Tibet

The Chinese government is restricting foreign journalists from entering Tibet and neighboring areas, and blocking some news, video and Internet reports about the protests there from appearing inside China, according to journalists working here.

For the past few days, CNN, the BBC, Google News, Yahoo and YouTube have been blocked or have faced temporary blackouts or service disruptions in some parts of China. Some foreign journalists also say their e-mail service has been disrupted.

Such measures are not unusual here. China strictly censors news that appears in the Chinese media and occasionally disrupts the activities of international news organizations and foreign Web sites operating in China, particularly if the content they are distributing is deemed politically offensive to the government.

The Foreign Correspondents Club of China issued a statement on Monday calling for China to immediately allow foreign journalists access to Tibet, which is in far western China. The organization, made up of foreign journalists based here, said Beijing had failed to honor its promise that before and during the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, it would allow foreign reporters greater freedoms to report in China.

Thanks CNN, BBC, RTL etc. for giving Chinese People such a good lesson

I, as a Chinese man, am so thankful to the western media such as CNN, BBC and RTL, for giving us such a precious lesson.

When I was young, I once longed for the western democracy, freedom, human rights and equality. I also admired multiple merits of the western civilized people, such as integrity and justice. I had been hoping the western forces play a positive role in effecting, probably helping China and Chinese people. And they indeed did so.

My first lesson from the west came from an accident happened in Yugoslavia, where US accurately bombed China Embassy, for which President Clinton claimed “unfortunately a mistake.” From then on, I began to realize that, we Chinese people are not regarded as their friends, at least in their eyes. And they are not such honest as they seemed to be.

As I read the western reports on Tibet Issue, I was still shocked by their meanness and degradation though I had been ready for reading the worst. Even a child could not play such a bad trick. I believe dalailama is more a politician than a Buddhist. Everyone knows what a real Buddhist should be. And what about the human rights of those civilians beaten, burnt to death by dalailama’s followers? Then I concluded that their justice, human rights and integrity only apply to their own people, but not us. They are not actually concerned about them at all.

So when I learned that some westerners were against Beijing Olympics, even planning a boycott, I don’t give a shit. I know they didn’t change since they invaded China and enslave Chinese people since centuries ago. I know they are the same as when they lighted the flame at Yuanmingyuan, the China royal garden.

I am sorry for not able to fully express myself due to my poor English. But I believe most Chinese people share the same mind. And our minds will become clearer than ever, with the help generously offered by the western media.

Thank you, CNN, BBC, RTF and so on…….
